D 7.5 Report on the platform IP Strategy, the Dissemination Strategy and the Monitoring of Regulation/Market
This report provides an update on the monitoring of the market and regulatory situation related to the measurement and detection of nanoparticles in complex matrices, together with an updated IP and dissemination strategy. The potential market for detection and measurement of nanoparticles in complex matrices that the SMART-NANO consortium is developing is influenced both by the requests of potential customers and by the relevant legislative/regulatory landscape. The consortium has started collecting customer’s requirements for some features of the platform under development, together with price cost points for some competing and/or complementary technologies, so to target the instrument (and its different modules) at the correct price point. The comparison of the Customer Awareness Index compiled at the end of 2012 and 2013 shows that this qualitative index is able to capture shifts in interests on nanotechnology. In particular, it clearly shows a general increase in interest on the needs to detect and measure nanoparticles and a strong increase in interest coming from the environmental sector. The modular approach taken in developing the measurement platform allows tuning the final product(s) to the different needs and requests of the customers, thus permitting the development of a market segmentation strategy. Initial considerations on such market segmentation strategy are outlined in this report.
